44 year old Shidane Omar Mohamed from Bracondale Road has been jailed for two and a half years after being convicted by a jury at Woolwich Crown Court for neglecting his daughter Amani.
Amani’s mother Kafiyu Dahir Tabarak, who’s 36, received a suspended prison sentence.
The London Ambulance Service was called to their home 5 February two years ago and found that Amani was not responsive.
She was declared dead after being taken to hospital and a post mortem concluded she’d received 70 separate fractures.
The injuries to her ribs, legs, arms and shoulder were tabulated as evidence for the trial.
Amani’s parents refused to answer any questions about her injuries following their arrest.
Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh of the Met Police Homicide and Major Crime Command said:
This has been a very distressing investigation for all concerned. Thirteen month old Amani would have looked to her parents for love and care; instead they abused the privilege of being parents to this little girl by inflicting seventy separate injuries over a period of two to four weeks. The level of abuse suffered by this toddler was incomprehensible; even more so given that the abuse was inflicted by either one or both of her parents.
