St James’s Street, Brighton: A Sound Portrait

St James’s Street, at the centre of Brighton’s gay district, is one of the seaside town’s liveliest and most vibrant thoroughfares.

But it’s also at the heart of a complex area that is struggling with housing and social issues, thinly veiled by its brightly-coloured façade.

As a new resident, Londoner Jade Wimbledon goes out to create an impression of the place in sound, by recording the street at day and night, and speaking to some of the people who live and work there, including those who have watched the street change over several decades.
