Large numbers of London Fire Brigade appliances and up to 70 firefighters have been dealing with huge underground fire in electrical cables on Kingsway this afternoon causing traffic disruption and the evacuation of thousands of people from their offices.
The fire was reported to have started in an inspection cover.

It’s understood the blaze has intensified as fire crews have been waiting for utility companies to disconnect the power supplies before they can tackle it.
There’s been huge disruption to the London rush hour.
Police have closed Kingsway at both ends.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
Buses have been diverted.
The London Fire Brigade said 250 people were initially evacuated from a nearby office block but the vast amount of thick acrid smoke had led to a wider safety line.
Over 2,000 people have had to be moved from their work stations and nearby buildings.
The volume of smoke and fumes has been so great it has enveloped entire office blocks and could be seen from the London Eye and Shard.
British Transport police report that Holborn underground station- one of the busiest in London has been closed.
