Man charged and appears in court for the murder of preacher Abdul Hadi Arwani

The Met Police have announced that a 35 year old man from Brent has been charged with murdering 48 year old father of six, Abdul Hadi Arwani.

Leslie Cooper from Nightingale Road, Brent, NW10 appeared in custody at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Mr Arwani was found slumped in his VW Passat car parked in Greenhill Wembley last Tuesday morning. (April 7th)

A post mortem established that he had received gunshot wounds to his chest.

Mr Arwani was born in Syria, had been a critic of President Bashar Assad’s regime and previously been an Imam at a mosque in Acton.

Leslie Cooper appeared in court with a shaven head and stubbly beard.

he wore a grey tracksuit and a white T-shirt, and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the hearing.

In proceedings lasting little more than a minute, he was remanded in custody by District Judge Ann Sawetz, to appear at the Old Bailey within the next 48 hours.
