It may only be April, but summer is certainly on the horizon.

Today, temperatures are expected to soar to 25C, which marks the hottest day of the year so far.

The Met Office have predicted that the UK will experience a hotter-than-average summer, which looks set to come true going by this mid-April heat wave.

25C is 10 degrees above the normal and make many parts of Britain hotter than Spain and other Mediterranean countries.

On Sunday, The Telegraph reported that sunny weather in London would reach temperatures of 26C.

Under the circumstances, the Met Office are alerting people to take precautions to keep hydrated and avoid over-heating.

When travelling on the underground, make sure you keep a bottle of water on you.

Make sure to take special care not to leave dogs in hot cars.

The Met Police say they will take direct action in response to any call of dogs left to overheat in parked vehicles:

There is also a danger for children in child seats.

A police officer came to the rescue in Kingston yesterday when a mother accidentally locked herself outside of her Land Rover with her infant child inside.
She was becoming ‘increasingly distressed’ as the temperature rose with her child trapped inside.

Thankfully, by smashing the window the child was rescued, and did not require any medical treatment.

With the heat also comes the risk of high levels of pollution, as reported earlier this month.

But the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) air quality index says there’s low air pollution today.

If necessary, make sure to wear suncream and stick to the shade if you feel effected by the sunshine.

The Met Office expect three months of sunshine ahead.
