Billowing smoke was seen from the M4 and M25 after a storage unit went up in flames at The Common in West Drayton, near Heathrow.
Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were called to extinguish the fire at around 11.30am this morning.
The London Fire Brigade received 13 individual 911 calls to the scene.
The whole of the single storage unit was damaged by the blaze, as well as a fork lift truck.
Thankfully no one, including any firefighters, were injured.
Station Manager Tim Frost, who was at the scene said:
The fire was in a storage unit and not at Heathrow airport. There is a lot of thick black smoke at the height of the incident but firefighters worked quickly to get it under control. Fire crews will remain at the scene damping down.
The fire was under control by 1.30 pm.
