A 23-year-old man has been arrested this morning on suspicion of the murder of Mahad Abdi Abshir.
The man was arrested at a residential address in Leicester and has been taken to a north London police station.
Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at about 5.40 am on Saturday 2nd May to reports of a man found collapsed in Castlehaven Road, Camden.
That man was 28-year-old Mahad Abdi Abshir who was taken to a central London hospital where he died the following day.
A post-mortem examination at Whittington Hospital gave the cause of death as head injuries.
Officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge said:
It is now apparent that Mahad was assaulted in Castlehaven Road prior to being found collapsed by a member of the public.
This is a busy location, right in the centre of Camden, and even at this time of the morning people would have been on the streets possibly following a night out or on their way to work.
Anyone who was in the area and saw Mahad in the early hours of the morning of 2 May is asked to contact police – you may hold vital information which could assist with our investigation.
Mr Abdi Abshir’s family said:
Mahad was a loyal, kind-hearted, forgiving man and was very much loved by his wife and family who will all miss him dearly.
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8358 0300 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
