27 year old  Army cadet training instructor, Jan Nicholas Ross, from Croydon has been sentenced at Croydon Crown Court to 7 years’ imprisonment for rape and sexual assault.

Ross was found guilty of causing or inciting a female to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault and rape against three victims.

In his role as a cadet training instructor, Ross was responsible for the training and development of the cadets within his unit in south London.

The offences took place between November 2013 and January 2014 in locations in Croydon and Guildford.

His victims were aged between 17 and 23 and at the time were all part of the Territorial Army cadet units in south London.

Today in court he was convicted of one count of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of causing or inciting a female to engage in sexual activity.

Detective Inspector Nicola Arrowsmith, Sexual Offences, Exploitation, and Child Abuse Command, said:

I would like to commend the victims for the courage and patience they have shown throughout this investigation and subsequent trial. Jan Ross held a role that enabled him to target young women he believed would be too scared to report him.
