Watch Manager Dave Girt who was at the scene said:

Fire crews confined the fire to the ground floor of the house, which was slightly damaged by the blaze. While the fire was contained in the porch, the house had quickly filled with thick black smoke.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters and officers from Edmonton and Tottenham fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 4.12 am and the fire was under control by 5.20 am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
