A 43 year old man from Ladywell has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in a Lewisham park.

Julian Kingston Fenton was found guilty of sexual assault and robbery on Friday the 15th of May, at Woolwich Crown Court.

The offences were committed on 31st of October 2014.

Fenton did not know his victim but after meeting her on the day attacked her in Hilly Fields Park.

During the attack Fenton ‘forcibly stole her bag.’

Officers from the Sexual Offences Exploitation & Child Abuse Command investigated and Fenton was arrested in November 2014.

The victim’s missing handbag was recovered from his address.

His reply to caution was: ‘I didn’t do anything.’

He made no comment during police interviews, but was picked out by the victim at an identity parade.

Detective Constable Dupe Mfon said:

This was a violent sexual attack on the victim who had to fight Fenton off. I commend her bravery throughout the process and hope that this result brings her some comfort.

Fenton will be sentenced on 11 June.
