Woman dies in house fire in Upper Norwood

A woman has died following a fire in a house on Grecian Crescent in Upper Norwood on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found the woman’s body on the ground floor of the semi-detached house.

The London Fire Brigade said: ‘Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.’

Part of the ground floor of the house was damaged by the blaze.

The Brigade was called at 4.47 pm and the fire was under control by 5.46 pm.

Four fire appliances and 21 firefighters and officers from West Norwood, Norbury and Brixton fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police are treating the fire as non-suspicious.
