Police officers have disarmed a knife-wielding alleged fare dodger on the Lea Bridge Road in the early hours of this morning.
It’s alleged he refused to pay his fare on a bus and refused to get off the bus.
When the officers approached the suspect he produced a knife and used it to threaten them.
He was quickly disarmed and arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon.
When the 21-year-old from Walthamstow was searched, he was also found to have a Stanley knife and a screwdriver.
These were in addition to the knife used to threaten officers.
He’s been taken to an east London police station.
Waltham Forest Police are investigating.
Enquiries continue.
Inspector Dan Adams of Waltham Forest Police said:
The disarming of this armed man is a clear example of the dangers that officers face every day and the risks they are prepared to take in order to keep the public safe.
The officers have been named as PCs Dunn and Worboyes and their bravery has been reported on social media by @MPSWForest
