Organizers believe that it’s possible up to a quarter of million people took part in today’s anti-austerity march and rally in central London.

Celebrities such as Russell Brand and Charlotte Church took part.

Charlotte said the doctrine of spending cuts to achieve economic recovery is ‘unethical, unfair and unnecessary.’

The London rally coincided with supporting marches in Glasgow and Liverpool.

Charlotte added:

We are in one of the richest nations in the world and social inequality is unacceptable.

I’m immensely proud to be here. I think this is a brilliant movement and it is for the common good. We are here to make a stand.

Labour London Mayoral hopeful Diane Abbott addressed the crowds before the marchers set off for the Palace of Westminster.

The event has been organised by the People’s Assembly.
