LFB Crews have been called to a small fire in a plant room at Wimbledon tennis club, SW19 this evening.
Around 3,000 people were evacuated as a precaution and has been described as ‘standard procedure while crews assessed the fire.’
Around 25% of a plant room near a restaurant was alight.
As well as 18 firefighters and officers, there were also a number firefighters already at the club who volunteer to act as fire patrol during the tournament.
Their roll is to respond to fire alerts, assess the scene and inform London Fire Brigade’s control centre as necessary.
3 fire engines from Wandsworth, Fulham and Battersea fire stations were at the scene.
The Brigade was called at three minutes past 9 pm about an hour after play had finished and the fire was under control one hour and three minutes later.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
