A dog is for life, not just for Christmas.
Yet, three pets are abandoned every hour over the holiday, according to RSPCA figures.
Pet abandonment and cruelty is a problem throughout the year.
However rehoming shelters, council pounds and rescue services are particularly inundated over the festive period with animals who are abandoned, either in favour of new pets or because they were given as unwanted gifts.
This means charities like B.A.R.K.S- Banbury’s Animal Rescue and Kindness Service- will be working harder than ever this year to rescue and re-home cats, rabbits and other little furries over Christmas and New Year.
