EU ambassadors allow vaccinated UK holidaymakers and other stories

After talks, EU ambassadors have agreed to allow fully vaccinated tourists to travel without the need to quarantine.

This comes after mixed messaged from the UK Government on whether Brits should holiday in countries on the amber list.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that trips to amber list countries were only justifiable for “pressing family or urgent business reasons”, whilst Conservative MP Gillian Keegan has said it “comes down to personal responsibility”.

Green MP Caroline Lucas criticised the Governments lack of clarity on the issue, stating, “the guidance is utterly utterly unclear”.

Annual UK inflation rate doubles

Consumer prices are rising at the fastest rate since the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Easing of lockdown restrictions are thought to be behind the jump from an inflation rate of 0.7% in March to 1.5% in April.

Footwear, clothing and energy prices have risen considerably.

House prices have also significantly increased, jumping by 10 percent over the last year, a blow for first time buyers.

Explosion outside Celtic chief’s home

Peter Lawwell and his family were forced to flee their home after a suspected petrol bombing and subsequent fire started outside their property.

The explosion took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Mr Lawwell has said his family are “extremely shaken and shocked” by the incident.

Fire fighters were successful in extinguishing the blaze, and the Scottish police are now investigating the explosion.

Excavation starts in search for Fred West victim

Excavation has begun at a cafรฉ in Gloucester thought to be linked to serial killer Fred West and missing person, Mary Bastholm.

The site being excavated was the work place of Ms Bastholm who went missing in 1968 and was frequented by West.

A TV production company filming at the cafe, found material at the site which resembled the clothing worn by Ms Bastholm on the day she went missing.

West took his own life in 1995 before he was able to stand trial for multiple murder charges, but his son told police that he confessed to killing Bastholm.

Excavation work will take at least two weeks to complete.

Princess Beatrice is expecting a baby

Princess Beatrice and her husband Mr Mopelli Mozzi are expecting their first child.

The Princess is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York.

Her sister, Princess Eugenie, gave birth to her first child in February of this year.

The child will be eleventh in line to the throne.
